Pilates
COMING SOON.... SHAPING FUTURES PILATES STUDIO.... IN DURHAM CITY
I decided to train in Pilates after training clients with postural and back problems. I wanted to be able to provide for my clients, a service with a far vaster knowledge than any typical personal trainer could. I have always loved Pilates for myself. It allows a person to de-stress using Pilates breathing techniques, whilst working your body in no other way than Pilates can.
Being fit is not just about being able to run miles, it's taking on board the whole package, mind, flexibility, core strength, and posture (by changing your posture you could look a size smaller and feel more confident)
Pilates and Reformer
Using a Reformer takes Pilates to the next level, increasing strength in your arms, legs and core, whilst adding flexibility - making you stronger and leaner like nothing but a Reformer can. Reformer tables use springs as a resistance to add to your Pilates moves.
If you don't know much about Pilates here are some facts...
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880, he died in New York in 1967. He developed a fitness regime and used it to overcome his disabilities as a frail and sickly child. He studied Eastern forms of exercise and combined these with his Western Physical Studies and devised a series of slow controlled movements that engage the mind and the body in developing strong flexible muscles and better posture. He named his method 'Contrology'. Emphasis was on developing deep torso strength which we call today 'core strength'. Pilates places a lot of emphasis on correct posture and technique with low repetitions of each exercise.

The benefits of Pilates include...
Improved balance, posture and core stability
Weaknesses are highlighted which will stimulate the body to adapt more readily
Stability of the spine and other joints is increased
Whole body musculature can be strengthened
Reduced stress and tension through correct breathing and movement patterns
Pilates developed over 500 exercises which were performed on the mat and
equipment with names such as the Reformer (pictured above).
